Bespoke cedar extension
Macclesfield, Cheshire East
The project consisted of two separate elements, the first being a ground floor side extension to accommodate a new kitchen and the second a first-floor extension above an existing integrated double garage to accommodate a master bedroom suite.
Cedar shingles became the material of choice, these were used as a rain-screen. The cladding was used across the entire extension from the walls up-to and over the roof with the aim that the timber would gracefully weather and blend with the mature garden in which it sits.
The large floor to ceiling apertures play a key role in the success of the new extension, increasing the feeling of space by inviting the outdoors in. Double doors lead onto a newly designed patio space, the design of which references the angular nature of the extension, which helps to visually elongate the shape of the site.
The use of a magnetic plaster product on the wall dividing the kitchen from the utility provided the perfect opportunity to create a dynamic piece of artwork – a place for proud parents to display their toddlers’ drawings and paintings.
