Substantial renovation and extension
Brereton Heath, Cheshire East
Arkhi were appointed in 2019 to transform this 1960s ugly duckling into a modern and bright family home. The property had various level changes throughout which proved impractical to remove.
We proposed an open plan layout with a simple palette of materials that blended from one room to the next. This transformed the steps up and down and worked really well, adding to the individuality of the property. A wider corridor was built from the main entrance down to the rear extension of the property, where we designed an open plan kitchen, dining and living area. This included large rooflights and a dominant central brick clad chimney feature.
At ground floor, a new attached garage will be built to the front of the property, and the existing garage to the rear of the property will be removed to make way for the rear extension. At first floor level a new bedroom will be constructed over part of the new garage, and the existing master bedroom will be reconfigured to include an ensuite bathroom.
The external facades will have vertical timber cladding applied to highlight certain elements of the property, and the new garage will be finished in a white render. The rear extension will balance the garage to the front in both height and scale, but this will be constructed from a contemporary white brick, which will be offset against the bold, dark toned brick of the central chimney feature.
